Taste & Tango 2014: Brazil!

Saturday, January 25 2014
Warwick Denver Hotel | 1776 Grant Street

Thank you to everyone who attended and made this event a success!

Mi Casa welcomed more than 160 friends and supporters to its third annual Taste & Tango gala dinner and auction. Mi Casa teamed up with renowned chef Daniel Asher of Denver hotspots Linger and Root Down as well as the Gabby Gourmet, Pat Miller and Warwick Denver Hotel to deliver an exciting evening of gourmet food, fine wine and live entertainment.

This year’s event raised more than $51,000 for Mi Casa’s programs, supporting the agency’s work of helping Latino and working families achieve economic prosperity!

Guests enjoyed complimentary Brazilian cachaca drinks and hors d'oeuvres while enjoying live music and bidding on a variety of silent auction baskets, including trendy neighborhood experiences, overnight date packages, and jewelry made by local artists.

Samba dancers drew guests into the dining room to enjoy a four-course dinner featuring 12 hour braised short ribs and ending with a sinful caramelized chocolate pot au crème.

Latasha Bell, Mi Casa Business Success graduate and owner of the organic handmade soap store Ashae, delivered an inspiring speech about her entrepreneurial journey.

“I went from fearful to fearless with Mi Casa’s support,” said Latasha, whose growing business just moved to a retail space on Santa Fe.

Mi Casa’s business programs served nearly 800 entrepreneurs and aspiring business owners in 2013 and helped launch 80 new businesses last year, which created 54 new jobs and generated $7.5 million in revenue.

Attendees donated more than $14,000 to support Mi Casa’s work of helping underserved entrepreneurs achieve their business dreams.

Throughout the evening, guests enjoyed live music from the jazz band Manuel Molina and Friends, who played tributes to world renowned Brazilian singer songwriter Antonio Carlos Jobim.

“We are so grateful for the community’s support,” said Mi Casa CEO Christine Marquez-Hudson. “It is because of our amazing supporters and partners that we are able to help more than 2,000 people take meaningful steps toward lasting self-sufficiency each year.”
